Energy Updates & Central Air Projects at Oakford Apartments, MD

Last week, SAFE Housing, Inc.'s Program Manager Mike Michieli performed several home energy check-ups and met with our contractors working at the Oakford Avenue apartments in Baltimore, Maryland. Crews have been installing energy efficient lighting, water efficient shower heads & faucet aerators, and bathroom exhaust fans with timers to reduce moisture and inhibit mold growth.

To keep cool, most residents keep their shades drawn and utilize large box fans to circulate air throughout their apartments. Even with these measures, the temperature in the apartments ranged from a humid 75 degrees in the lower floors to nearly 85 degrees in the upper floors. Residents were thrilled to hear SAFE Housing, Inc. will be installing central air conditioning throughout both buildings on Oakford Avenue over the next month.

Installing energy and water efficiency measures allow landlords to keep rent affordable for families struggling to make ends meet. The installation of central air conditioning will not only keep residents comfortable & safe during the hottest months of the year, but it will also help prevent mold growth by reducing humidity in the apartments.

This project is funded by the Maryland Energy Administration.
