SAFE Housing, Inc. Receives HUD Grant of $2 Million to Improve Housing Conditions for Low-Income Families
SAFE Housing, Inc. is one of only 22 organizations to be awarded funding from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s (HUD) Healthy Homes Production Grant Program. SAFE Housing, Inc.’s $2 million grant will be aimed at addressing critical health and safety hazards in the homes of up to 200 low-income homeowners in Adams County, Pennsylvania, over the next 3 ½ years.
"We are thrilled to receive this grant from HUD, which will enable us to further our mission of creating safe and healthy homes for vulnerable families," said Andrea Everhart, Executive Director of SAFE Housing, Inc.
SAFE Housing, Inc. will utilize the funding to hire contractors to repair issues ranging from mold and moisture, pests, inadequate heating and cooling, accessibility, lead-based paint, and other concerns that threaten the health and safety of occupants. “With this investment from HUD and support from our community partners, we now have the means to address these challenges head-on,” Everhart said.
"We are grateful to HUD for recognizing the importance of addressing home health hazards and for their support in our endeavors," added Everhart. "This grant will not only protect families from the impacts of unhealthy housing but also contribute to the overall health and well-being of our community."
SAFE Housing, Inc. plans to begin implementation of the grant-funded projects later this spring, working closely with local partners and stakeholders to maximize the impact of these vital initiatives.
